Legislative Accomplishments

  • Co-sponsored legislation allowing voters to authorize a constitutional amendment allowing bail to be denied to those accused of violent felony offenses. (SJR 5).
  • Co-sponsored legislation which overhauls Texas’ pretrial release system to prioritize public safety, limit bail for high-risk defendants, prevent repeat offenses, and increase accountability in bail decisions. (SB 9).
  • Co-sponsored legislation to prohibit companies, governments, and agents from foreign adversary nations like China, Iran, North Korea, and Russia from purchasing, owning, or controlling property in Texas. (SB 17).
  • Voted to prohibit nonprofit “charitable bond organizations” from using public funds to pay bail for defendants. (SB 40).
  • Supported requiring local law enforcement authorities across Texas to enforce federal immigration law, including arresting, jailing, and deporting illegal immigrants in collaboration with ICE and the Trump Administration. (SB 8).
  • Voted to empower the Attorney General to intervene and prosecute human trafficking cases when local prosecutors fail to act. (HB 45).
  • Co-authored legislation to establish Texas as a national leader in nuclear industry renewal and innovation by providing funding mechanisms for the development, construction, and completion of advanced nuclear energy projects. (HB 14).
  • Supported creating and dedicating revenue to a statewide water fund administered by the Texas Water Development Board. (SB 7, HJR 7).
  • Supported strengthening Texas’ energy independence through a Gulf Coast LNG Compact to expand the state’s liquefied natural gas industry. (HB 2890).
  • Supported the creation of the Texas Grid Security Commission to protect the state’s power grid from external threats, including severe weather, cyberattacks, EMPs, and supply chain disruptions. (SB 75).
  • Co-authored the largest increase in public education funding in state history, including record teacher pay raises and historic reforms. (HB 2).
  • Co-sponsored the Education Savings Account program, finally bringing school choice to Texas. (SB 2).
  • Authored legislation to allow the issuance of temporary Texas teaching certificates to duly qualified educators certified in another state, allowing them to begin teaching sooner and help address the state’s teacher shortage. (HB 1178).
  • Co-authored legislation establishing the Applied Sciences Pathway Program, creating a meaningful career pathway to high-demand jobs for more Texas high school students. (HB 20).
  • Co-authored legislation to expand access to Career and Technical Education programs that help ensure students graduate ready for college, a career, or military service. (HB 120).
  • Co-sponsored legislation to permit the Ten Commandments to be displayed in classrooms. (SB 10).
  • Co-authored the “Teacher Bill of Rights,” which gives teachers greater authority to discipline or remove disruptive students from the classroom and restore order. (HB 6).
  • Co-authored legislation to protect homeschool programs from increased state regulation. (HB 2674).
  • Voted to require students to receive instruction on the atrocities, propaganda, and totalitarian ideologies of communist regimes. (SB 24).
  • Supported increased oversight of public universities to address bias, DEI programs, and ideologically charged instruction. (SB 37).
  • Supported increasing public participation in the sunset review process for state agencies and creating a new audit system to ensure taxpayer-funded resources are used wisely. (HB 12).
  • Supported establishing the Texas DOGE Office to reduce regulations and administrative bloat in state government, making it easier for Texans to run a business. (SB 14).
  • Supported establishing a comprehensive regulatory framework for artificial intelligence systems and creating responsible oversight mechanisms for AI use within state government. (HB 149).
  • Supported legislation allowing victims of sexual misconduct to pursue justice for abuse committed by a Texas public school or its employees. (HB 4623).
  • Supported requiring mobile app marketplaces to verify users’ ages and obtain parental consent for minors. (SB 2420).
  • Supported “Trey’s Law,” which prohibits the use of NDAs in sexual abuse cases, protecting children and victims while exposing bad actors who seek to conceal harmful behavior. (SB 835).
